Are you having trouble breathing from a bout of pneumonia? Is the cough driving you crazy? Have you tried all means of treatment, but have not been able to get any relief or are having a very slow recovery?  Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), the all-natural alternative, may be the answer for you.

Studies have shown:

  • OMT can be used as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of pneumonia.
  • OMT has shortened the length of hospital stay in patients with pneumonia.

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. It usually starts as an infection in the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat), and develops as a complication in the lungs.

Next section

The infection can be caused by various microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria or fungi.

Next section

Common symptoms of pneumonia include cough with productive sputum, fever, chills, shortness of breath, and chest pain secondary to coughing .

Next section

The diagnosis of pneumonia is usually made by taking a careful history and performing a thorough physical examination. Other tests, such as blood tests, chest X-ray and sputum culture may be needed to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other possibilities.

Treatment depends on the cause and generally includes a conservative approach which includes:

  • Medication: Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or antiviral medicine if it is caused by bacteria or virus.
  • Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).
  • Some types of pneumonia can be prevented with a vaccine, which is given to certain people more prone to developing pneumonia. Other preventive measures include washing hands frequently and avoiding smoking.

What is the difference between licensing and board certification for a physician, and do you have any of these?

Physicians are required to be licensed to practice medicine in the U.S. by the licensing board in each state they wish to practice.

A board certified physician has completed an additional training program in a specialty and has passed a rigorous exam to assess his or her knowledge, skills and experience to provide quality patient care in that specialty.

In my case, I am licensed to practice medicine in Texas, and I have two board certifications. The first one is Family Medicine and the second one is Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
